You can also just use gamin which is an ABI-compatible replacement for
FAM; that's what we're using in what will become Fedora Core 3. It's
also a lot more SELinux friendly insofar that it's a per-user server, no
root code running etc etc

HAL works pretty well in FC3, for what's it worth.
