xserver-inst2.sh fails

I have several automake versions installed, but it's using 1.7 (don't
remember whether it picked it up automatically or I had to force it
somehow); automake 2.59 and libtool 1.5.
I should have mentioned I don't use xserver-inst2.sh. Maybe it overrides
a search path or something?
