Description Jim Cornette 2004-08-15 12:13:59 UTC
After installing the latest available rpms for X. I had trouble with even being
able to start X. I start at runlevel 3 and have an 815 based video card. Version
6.7.99.2-5 installed.

This is after reinstalling the original X version from FC3T1

This version works. Also the previous test version that Mike Harris offered
also worked.
This is the first instance of X not starting since the switch to xorg-x11.

I hope this helps.

This log is from the earlier X version closing down

The log records X logging unto its death. The log was saved before
reinitializing X. From a novice observer, the X exit looks like it could not
find the desired addresses or info.

xorg log file showing signal 11 error on i810 system
Comment 9 Jim Shepherd 2004-08-19 11:38:56 UTC
I have the same signal 11 problem with an i810. After installing
xorg-x11-6.7.99.2-5 on a fedora development system, X will not start. Attached
is the log. I remember seeing an inet6 error at some point, but I can;t find a
trace of it now and don't know if it is relevent.

Mike Harris posted on his list to include the xorg.conf file w/ all reports. Cleaning up an oversite.

The later version from CVS was reported to fail the same way.

xorg.conf for i810 on my Dell Optiplex

I'm experiencing the same problem as Jim Shepherd above. I also have an i810
video card and X crashes on startup with the latest cvs xorg-x11 rpms from Red
Hat's rawhide development tree. Per request of Mike Harris' call for testing,
I'm attaching my X log file, X config file, lsmod, and messages file (from
where I changed my init level from 3 to 5). Also included are the output of
'lspci -v' and my xorg-x11 and kernel rpm versions. Apologies if this
overkill, but I just wanted to be sure that you had as much info as possible to
help fix this bug.

binary driver until Fedora build catches up the current patch in bug 1084

This is the last working binary driver for having X work with Fedora until the
CVS checkin completes for Fedora. Using X
copy this binary driver to the /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/ directory,
replacing the non-functional i810 driver for the Intel 810 or 815 card. This
will allow the latest X version. xorg-x11-6.7.99.902-8 to function.
This should not be needed until the CVS version with the patch reaches Fedora
development. It does save from having to revert X to previous versions until
the version is patched.

This bug seems resolved by the second patch in bug 1084
