MPlayer has artifacts while it plays when xcompmgr is running. Usually when something is changing underneath the window. Sometimes nothing gets shown in the window. Especially after the window is moved or resized.
Duplicate this by: 1. have a terminal open. 2. Run mplayer in that terminal 3. Overlap the mplayer output window over the terminal. The 'status' line in the terminal will cause a section of the output window not to update.
I cannot reproduce this with xcompmgr -a (Oct 2005), Xorg 7.0RC1 and mplayer running with a konsole terminal window open playing an avi and layered on top of the term window. This is being reproduced with a Radeon 9600 Mobile card. If you can still reproduce this with newer Xorg and video drivers, please reopen.
Shawn, can you try again with xcompmgr -c? I have the same problem, but it doesn't show up with -a. This is with Xorg 6.9, I would be interested if it's gone in 7.0.
