Description PatLeNain 2004-10-04 07:10:36 UTC
Since my last update of xorg (under Fedora core 2), the numlock led is off when
i returned from xscreensaver but the numpad keys are working (numlock is
actually actived).
My graphic card is an ATI radeon 9100 PCI.
It's a non-blocking bug but it's perturbing.

I have a similar problem. I'm on FC3 with the latest updates.

What happens is I'll be working and all of a sudden (while I'm typing) at random
the numlock light will go off. I've actually observed this a couple of times
but I know it's happened more (I just didn't believe it at first). When it goes
off, the system still acts like numlock is ON, even though the light is OFF.

This is confirmed because if I press numlock once, the light stays OFF. If I
press it again the light comes back on and everything is back to normal.

It might do this a couple of times in a 10 hour programming session. I almost
never quit X (it runs for weeks).

This happened under FC2 and FC3 Xorg as far as I can remember. It did not occur
in RH9 or FC1 with XFree.

I'm using driver "kbd". I'm actually running the FC3 rawhide rpm's to fix the
keyboard repeat rate bug (xorg-x11-6.8.1.901-1), but the problem did occur with
the stock and non-rawhide updated FC3 rpm's.

The same problem happens to me if I switch to the linux console and then
back to X. Both for NumLock and CapsLock. The LEDs are initially off, they
do not reflect the actual state.
I use X.Org 6.8.1.
Comment 3 Pavel Janík 2006-01-31 22:31:43 UTC
I can reproduce the same behavior on SUSE Linux 10.0

X Window System Version 6.8.2
Release Date: 9 February 2005
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.8.2
Build Operating System: SuSE Linux [ELF] SuSE
Current Operating System: Linux p-000000 2.6.13-15-default #1 Tue Sep 13
14:56:15 UTC 2005 i686

With NumLock turned on and actually activated, switching to text console and
back, it switches NumLock LED off, but NumLock functionality is still activated.

Comment 5 Erik Andren 2006-05-31 07:05:37 UTC
Is this reproducible with a current version of xorg? ie 7.1
Comment 6 Egmont Koblinger 2006-05-31 07:23:20 UTC
Yes, the same with 7.1.
Example: I have numlock on under X but off under tty1. I'm using X, the led is
on.
I press CtrlAltF1, the led turns off in approx. half second, during the switch.
Then I press CtrlAltF7. The led immediately turns on, but in approx. 1 second
(shortly before the graphical screen appears) it turns off. However, apps work
as if it was on. I press NumLock once, the led stays off and now apps work
according to this. I press it once again, it correctly turns on (led lights up).

This is possible a duplicate of https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=313

Comment 8 Egmont Koblinger 2007-02-05 09:38:20 UTC
Yes, that patch solves my problem, so it really seems to be a duplicate. Thanks very much for the patch!
